Getting from Christchurch to Kathmandu
Christchurch has fewer long-haul connections than Auckland, so the journey usually starts with a flight to a hub: Singapore, an Australian city or Auckland. From there you connect to Kathmandu, often through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok. Which hub is best changes with the date and the airline.
That is why asking for a quote works better than searching alone. The cheapest-looking itinerary can hide a long layover or a separate booking, and we show the total journey so you can compare like with like.
One ticket or two?
A single ticket, booked as one journey, usually means the airline looks after you if the first flight runs late and you miss the next. If you book a flight to Auckland separately, you normally carry that risk yourself and may have to collect and re-check your bags. We show both options when we quote, with the total price and the trade-offs.
Dashain, Tihar and school holidays
South Island departures are priced like the rest of the country: the festivals, school holidays and December are usually the dearest times. Tell us if you could leave from another airport, such as Auckland, and we’ll price it both ways. Our guide to Dashain and Tihar flights from New Zealand shows how to plan.

Flying from Wellington, Queenstown, Dunedin or Hamilton? Tell us your nearest airport in the quote form and we’ll include the connection where possible. Starting in Auckland instead? See flights from Auckland to Kathmandu.
Airlines on this route
Airlines commonly used between New Zealand and Nepal include Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Emirates and Qatar Airways, usually combined with a connecting carrier. What is available from Christchurch, and which is best value, changes by date, so we check them for you.
