Why fly into Delhi
Delhi is the main international gateway for northern India. If your family is in Delhi itself, or in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh or Punjab, flying into Delhi keeps your options open for onward domestic flights, trains and road transfers. Heading to Punjab? Ask us to price Amritsar as well, which can save a long journey from the capital.
Ask about through-tickets, too. Booking the long-haul flight and your onward domestic leg together can protect you if the first flight is delayed, whereas separate tickets leave a missed connection as your problem.
Seasons and busy dates
Fares typically climb around Diwali, Christmas to New Year and New Zealand school holidays, when many families travel at once. Quieter shoulder periods can be better value, but the best month depends on the airline and how far ahead you book. Tell us how flexible you are and we’ll show what a few days either side does to the price.
Our guide to flying home for Diwali covers what to plan and when.
Multi-city and open-jaw trips
Visiting more than one city? A multi-city fare, such as flying into Delhi and home from Mumbai, can save you backtracking. Ask us to quote it alongside a standard return so you can compare.
Airlines on this route
Airlines commonly used between New Zealand and Delhi include Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qantas, China Southern and Air China, usually with a connecting carrier. Availability and value change by date, so we compare them for you.
