Family in Tamil Nadu or Puducherry?
Chennai is the main international gateway for Tamil Nadu and the nearest one for Puducherry, which is a few hours’ drive south. For relatives in Madurai, Coimbatore or Tiruchirappalli, ask us to price the domestic leg together with the international flights so that a late arrival does not leave them stranded.
Pongal, Tamil New Year and Deepavali
Pongal falls in mid-January, Tamil New Year in mid-April and Deepavali in October or November. Families often want to be together for all three, and flights around them fill early. Parents coming to New Zealand may prefer to arrive just before or after a festival, so tell us the window and we’ll show what a few days either side does to the price.
Monsoon season and tight connections
Chennai’s heaviest rain comes with the north-east monsoon, roughly October to December, and storms can delay flights or the drive to the airport. If the traveller is leaving in that season, a longer layover or a single through ticket gives more protection than a tight connection.
Filter coffee, murukku and biosecurity
Coffee powder, murukku, pickles, ghee and sweets travel well, but New Zealand’s biosecurity rules are strict: declare all food, plants and animal products on arrival, and some items are not allowed in. Check the Ministry for Primary Industries website before packing, and ask us about a visitor visa timeline before you buy a ticket that cannot be changed.
Airlines on this route
Airlines commonly used between Chennai and New Zealand include Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and Gulf carriers, usually combined with a connecting carrier. What is available changes by date, so we check them for you.
